El Dorado
Making wine is the most humbling and magical of endeavors. Wines provide a voice for the connection between the earth, the vine and the elements. The Bear is the voice for the Fenaughty & Lightner Vineyards, as told through the Rhône varietals that led us to the Sierras in 2003. There we met Ron Mansfield and began planting grapes like Cinsault and Counoise to lend depth and soul to our blends.
I have gone to the edge of the country
with the taste of a morning on my lips.
I am travelling the distances of red deer
and foxes ---- tracks in the snow.
My footprint is my signature.
- Elanor Rees, “Eliza & The Bear”
Tasting Note:
A perfumed nose of crushed strawberries and raspberries, citrus rind and a touch of wet violets. Spicy notes mingle with hints of black tea and earth to provide a nervy tension between sweet and savory. This medium bodied wine leaves the palate with supple tannins and a bright finish.
