Clairette may be newer to California, but it is a historical grape to the Rhône Valley, dating back to the 1500s. We planted a block of Clairette with Ron Mansfield at the Barsotti Vineyard in 2010 after having planted Picpoul, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Vermentino in 2009. Together with the Clairette, these grapes make up the elements of our Eliza wine. Sadly in 2020 & 2021 we were not able to make Eliza due to the impacts of wildfires driven by climate change. In these uncertain vintages, we focus first on what we can do to make the most delicious wine possible, rather than allowing our regularly planned wines to drive the timing of grape picking or winemaking decisions. The result is our 2020 Clairette, a vintage that includes a healthy dose of the Barsotti Picpoul (which missed the label by accident but is thankfully within legal limits! 😊)

Tasting Note:

This seamless white wine holds purity, focus and freshness as its cornerstones. Opening with white blossoms and unripe honey dew, and unfolding to subtler notes of passionfruit, lime and vanilla, this wine balances bright acidity with a rich and layered texture. Each new sip surprises and delights. Enjoy with your favorite sushi, grilled summer squash or yellow Thai curry.
