POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Hospitality is one of three co-captains on our DTC team working collaboratively with our MarCom Manager and Wine Club & Commerce System Manager and reporting to one of the Proprietor/Owners and GM & Winemaker.  This is a manager-level position with P&L responsibility for all on-premise experiences which includes our regular Tasting Room Experience plus:

  • Winery Events like Release Parties, Members Tastings & Dinners, etc.
  • Collaborative Events on the block like monthly First Fridays and here there is much room for growth
  • Retail sales from the tasting room for off-premise 7 days a week (no Tastings on Mondays).
  • This position is currently a Tuesday – Saturday workweek to be on site for service on Friday & Saturdays and in the office with the DTC Team Tuesday – Friday.

This position hires, trains and manages a team of full and part-time sales associates to provide exemplary service and customer engagement while ALSO peppering in education to all new guests, returning customers, and wine club members while simultaneously being a brand ambassador for Donkey & Goat winery who can convey the history and uniqueness of our winery and winemaking in order to sell wine, create advocates, sign up new members and build relationships with current members.

The Director of Hospitality works closely with the DTC team which includes the co-captains and General Manager to ensure the entire hospitality team is supported and trained to perform their job as brand ambassadors.  This includes refining and in many cases creating SOPs to ensure regardless of the Sales Associates working, the Tasting Experience at Donkey & Goat remains consistently at a 5-star level.  It also includes planning and managing monthly staff meetings with the DTC Team and all associates as well as regular field trips to research other’s execution of Tasting Experiences as well as quarterly staff parties.

The Director of Hospitality will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Donkey & Goat Winery Tasting Room, Wine Shop, and Private Experiences.  This is a big job with unlimited growth potential for the right candidate.  This person will immediately evaluate our current offering and help refine growth plans for FY23.

The successful candidate has a mind for business with demonstrated experience managing P&L for service.  This person is computer savvy and has demonstrated skill and experience with spreadsheets and google sheets.  This person also has the experience and/or relevant skills for managing the creation and printing of menus that can change weekly which requires updates in systems and printed marketing material and menus not to mention following business processes for pricing that ensures healthy margins (per direction from Management) are maintained as costs continually rise and impact from COVID variable.

A huge plus if you are familiar with the concept of behavior marketing in the ethernet and therefore can conceive ideas for applying the principles to the real world and the humans that visit our winery that ultimately impact your staff training, SOPs, signage, merchandising and more!!

DONKEY & GOAT HOSPITALITY SERVICES

  • Retails Sales – 7 days a week 11-5p
  • Tasting Experiences – Tuesday – Sunday 11-5p (and more)
    • Tues – Thursday on 5th Street
    • Friday – Sunday on 5th Street, Backyard and cellar
    • Friday we stay open until 7pm
  • Regular Collab Events – TGIF Blockparty with Hammerling for First Friday and close 5th street 3-7p but 3-8p for June – September
  • Release Parties – 4x year on a Saturday 1-5p
  • Private Events – Large groups during service & up to 150 person private events after service hours or with buy out fees for service interruption

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of retail, hospitality, or customer service experience with at least 1 year of winery tasting room or wine retail experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency desired in all Google & Office Applications, all Microsoft Suite products, Commerce systems, POS systems and Reservation systems
  • Proficiency desired in social media to promote availability, especially day of when tables are available for walk-ups.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
